A “Brownfield” is a piece of property that is contaminated by some type of hazardous waste and/or pollutant. They are usually abandoned industrial or commercial sites. Once they are cleaned up, brownfield sites are able to be reused as something else such as a commercial shopping center or a residential development. The cleanup and reuse of brownfields is a great way to help make our planet a cleaner and healthier place to live.
