Eco Lingo – “Renewable Energy”

30 July 2009 No Comment

The Eco Lingo for today is “Renewable Energy”

Renewable energy is any energy that is created from natural means like the sun, wind, earth, and water. These sources of energy are naturally replenished, hence the “renewable”. Using renewable energy sources for power is great because they do not produce greenhouse gases like when you use oil and coal.

One drawback to renewable energy is that not all locations are suitable for each type of renewable energy. For example, if you live in the desert, you probably have a lot of sun for solar, but no water for micro hydro. Your location affects your choice of energy source, which in turn affects the price.

Some of the various types of renewable energy are:

Solar Power

Wind Power

Hydroelectric Power

Tidal Power

Micro Hydro Power

Biofuels

Geothermal
