Top 15 Free Ways to Go Green (6-10)

20 June 2009 No Comment

Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed my last post – Top 15 Free Ways to Go Green (11-15). I hope you guys got some good ideas that you can actually use. This time I’m going to give you my next Top 15 Free Ways to Go Green (6-10). They are starting to get good now so get ready to get green!

10 – Compost

A great way to save money is to create a compost pile. After you mow your grass or rake the yard, you can put all the leaves, grass, and sticks in the compost pile. You can also put your cardboard and paper in it. Over time these items will break down and provide you with rich, nutrient filled soil you can use around your plants.

9 – Drink Tap Water

Instead of buying bottled water, use the water from the tap instead. They are basically the same thing anyways. Bottled water has a big impact on the environment, from the oil needed to make the bottles to the gas used to transport it, so the less we buy, the better. Plus, tap water is cheaper. You can buy a reusable water bottle and use it everyday. You can always buy a water filter if you are worried about having dirty water.

8 – Pay Bills Online

Most companies will allow you to pay your bills online. Instead of writing out a check every month and mailing it, use the online option instead. This will save paper used for envelopes and checks and gas used to transport your bills.

7 – Use Email

Instead of sending snail mail, use Email. Just like paying your bills online, you will be saving paper and gas. Plus, Email is a lot faster!

6 – Turn Down the Thermostat

For every degree you turn down the thermostat, you will be saving around 1% on your heating bill. When your not home, be sure to turn it down to 55 to save on heating costs (Any lower than 55 may result in your pipes freezing). You can also set it lower at night, compared to during the day, when you have blankets to help keep you warm, to save even more.
